Alumna Teaches Home Cooks to Navigate The Kitchen in New TV Show

As you flip through the channels, watch out for BYU alumni, Kelsey Nixon, host of “Kelsey’s Homemade,” which premiered on the Cooking Channel, Nov. 14.

A graduate of BYU’s broadcast journalism program and Le Cordon Bleu in Hollywood, Nixon got started in the food media industry at BYU when she created “Kelsey’s Kitchen,” a college cooking show emphasizing fast, fun and affordable meals for college students.

Her television career jumpstarted when she finished fourth as a contestant on “The Next Food Network Star.” Her next show, “Kelsey’s Essentials,” brought more success as she launched a line of kitchen gear and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Culinary Host category for her work on the show.

Nixon says her goal is to create recipes that target the home cook— to break down the basics, teach proper techniques and make sure anyone can feel comfortable in the kitchen.
