Pratte, AlfEmeritus

A graduate of BYU, 1962, and 1965 (Master’s) Paul Alfred (Alf)Pratte spent 19 years teaching print journalism at BYU before retiring as a professor. Prior to coming to BYU he taught part-time at Hawaii Pacific College, the University of Hawaii where he received his Ph.d. in American Studies in 1976.  Born and raised in Canada, he worked professionally for the Lethbridge Alberta Herald, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, the Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News and as a  correspondent for the Associated Press.
In addition to his career in journalism, Pratte served as administrative assistant to the Senate Minority office in the Hawaii state Senate, as Coordinator for the Marine Advisory Program of the Sea Grant College at the University of Hawaii. He also founded the Hawaii LDS Record  Bulletin which printed LDS news in the Pacific from 1969 to 1981 as well the Keystone Bulletin in 1984 for LDS members in Pennsylvania. He is married to June Turner Pratte,  a BYU graduate and they have five children.With Jack Nelson and Ray Beckham, Pratte is one of the founding fathers of the BYU Ex-Communicators Society.
