BYU broadcast student named Hearst championship finalist

Matt Rascon, a journalism student from La Mesa, Calif., has been nominated as one of five students nationwide as a finalist for the Hearst TV Championship sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. He was selected as a finalist out of 139 applicants for the award.

The five finalists will participate in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s National Championships on June 2 – 6, 2014, in Washington, DC. At the competition, the finalists will compete with radio, writing and multimedia students for a scholarship prize of up to $5,000.

The finalists will be judged by professionals from the communications industry including top executives from companies like The Hearst Foundation, Schurz Communications and Rubber City Radio Group.
