QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANT
- A love for Utah, its culture and its unique communities - from Salt Lake City to St. George and everywhere in between
- Strong writing, research, interview and communication skills
- Proficiency in English grammar and spelling and Associated Press style
- Ability to find sources, asking questions and summarizing information
- Curiosity about local issues, from politics and business to the arts and outdoors
- Desire to find truth and recognize inaccurate or incomplete information, narratives, and data
- Ability to work on tight deadlines while keeping your cool (Utah winters build resilience, right?)
- Interest in journalism, communications, or related fields
- Ability to adapt to new digital tools
DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES
- Local Reporting: cover news and events happening across Utah, from community happenings, local and state government, to state-wide developments
- Story Development: research and write articles that bring Utah's culture, history, government and current events to life
- Event Coverage: report on local events, public meetings and gathering, and festivals with accuracy and enthusiasm
- Interviewing: connect with community members, leaders, and experts to add depth and authenticity to your reporting
- Fact-Checking: ensure every name, date, and fact in your stories is spot-on
- Collaboration: work with editors and reporters to craft compelling, truthful narratives that resonate with Utahns
- Social Media Engagement: help share stories online and keep a pulse on local conversations
- Digital Publishing: format and publish press releases and articles on Utahbusiness.com using our digital tools
