Belonging in the BYU School of Communications
At the Brigham Young University School of Communications, we embrace belonging as a gospel-centered principle rooted in the knowledge that we are all children of God. This understanding calls us to recognize each person’s divine lineage, individual talents, and unique life experiences, uniting us as brothers and sisters who support one another in our personal and academic growth.
Belonging is more than mere inclusion — it is the active expression of Christ-like love and mutual commitment as a covenant community. Grounded in eternal truths and the teachings of Jesus Christ and living prophets, we cultivate an environment where all feel welcomed, valued, and heard. Our students, faculty, and staff strive to uplift one another, celebrate the richness of varied gifts and perspectives, and advance BYU’s mission to assist individuals in reaching their full divine potential.
As part of this effort, the School of Communications integrates belonging into all facets of our program — our classes, mentoring relationships, collaborative projects, and public service. Through experiential learning, research, and engagement with the broader media landscape, we prepare students to use their communication skills to serve, inspire, and build unity wherever they go.
We invite everyone who joins our community to stand together as “no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints,” working in the spirit of Zion to promote understanding, integrity, compassion, and a shared commitment to gospel-centered excellence.
