How to Apply

Applying to the BYU School of Communications involves a straightforward four-step process. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Gain Admission to BYU

First, you must be admitted to Brigham Young University as a freshman or transfer student. This is the essential first step to becoming part of our communications program.

2. Declare Your Major as Pre-Communications

Once admitted, declare yourself as a pre-communications student. This step helps you begin your journey toward your desired major.

3. Complete Pre-Requisite Courses

You'll need to successfully complete specific foundational courses required for all School of Communications majors. These courses will prepare you with essential skills and knowledge, ensuring you're ready to thrive in your chosen field.

4. Apply to Your Chosen Communications Program

Typically during the fall of your sophomore year, you'll apply to your specific program within the School of Communications. Depending on your chosen major, you may be required to submit a portfolio, writing samples, or other materials as part of your application.
