QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANT
Interns who work on the Inscape staff are not required to have special skills, except for editors on the Executive Editing Team. Editors should have training and experience in copy and developmental editing. Interns interested in leadership positions should have experience and/or training specific to the position they are applying for. The genre groups and teams are listed below.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES
Student interns and volunteers are an integral part of Inscape journal, and we invite all students to visit us and consider joining the staff. Interns may choose to be members of the staff or apply to be assistant leaders of logistics teams and genre groups if there is an opening and they have the requisite skills. Interns who are members of the general staff will learn how to approach literary and art submissions as well as learn skills as a member of a marketing or logistics team. Interns in leadership positions may help the editors teach writing and editing skills to junior staff, and teach them to approach art and discern high art. Because Inscape involves so much more than reading submissions, interns and volunteers also experience how the publishing world works through direct experience with mentors on staff.
The Inscape Internship Requirements
1. Attend Inscape every Thursday night from 5:00-7:30 p.m.
2. Serve on the Inscape staff as members of a logistics team and a genre group.
3. Contribute their input—under the supervision of their team leads and genre editors, Inscape editor-in-chief and assistant leaders—regarding the content of the Inscape journal issues and the Inscape website.
4. Serve as assistants on teams or for genre groups if a position is open and if they are qualified.
5. Accept and receive assignments on their designated teams and genre groups.
6. Brainstorm, suggest, and help to implement ideas that will promote Inscape.
7. Help to recruit and, when asked, train new Inscape staff. 8. When asked, help to organize and run information booths on BYU campus.
