For hundreds of years, composers and artists have been creating variations on a theme. Now BYU Communications professor Christopher Cutri is doing the same for web documentaries.
His recently launched channel, The Rake (Tumblr, YouTube), is “a documentary series where an array of themes and ideas are culled together into one locale.”
The inaugural theme of the series is “artists who happen to be Mormon.” In 10-minute films, Cutri explores their work and the impact their lives have on their art:
Fine art photographer Daniel Everett talks about how his work examines our ability to exist in anonymous space and how this theme connects with ideas of utopia and progress.
Painter Andrew Ballstaedt explores how his artistic sensitivity was nurtured through the mentors in his life.
Drummer Patrick Campbell discusses how he came to be a drummer and why rhythm is so much a part of our everyday existence.
Painter Sunny Taylor explains why abstract works speak more to her and how her creative process works.
