Biography

Miles Romney is an award-winning sports journalist turned academic. He earned a BA at Brigham Young University (2005) and shortly thereafter, began a career in journalism that spanned markets in Idaho and Utah and worked for both local TV stations and a regional sports network (RSN). Along the way, he worked as a sports producer, reporter, anchor, sideline reporter (college football, Arena League), and talk radio host. Additionally, he helped produce live sporting events such as NBA basketball, arena football, college football, high school sports, and the Tour of Utah cycling event.

Miles also worked for the FOX affiliate in Salt Lake City as a freelance reporter. During this stint, he returned to school to complete a master’s degree in Professional Communication at Westminster College (2012). After the completion of his master’s degree, he was accepted into the doctoral program at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University (2016).

Miles began his academic career teaching in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of South Carolina. In 2017, he left the south to return to Brigham Young University. His research interests focus primarily on national sports networks; specifically, how they frame news and information for audiences on both traditional media and social and digital platforms.

Miles is married to Jessica Romney who is his best friend and favorite adventure buddy. They love being active. They’re avid cyclists and hikers. They also love to travel and together they have been to nearly every continent and to over 50 countries.
