DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES
Core projects:
● Create an internal directory of speakers available to speak to their personal experiences of food insecurity
○ Speakers would be referred by UAH to give personal statements to:
Media Agencies seeking personal stories about food security
topics
Legislative committees or other public entities receiving public
comment about policies impacting food security in Utah
○ Speakers can be drawn from the general public or through UAH partner
agencies
● Create protocols for recruiting new speakers, maintaining the directory, and
ensuring ethical standards for recruitment
● Create a record of partner agencies who are potentially consistent partners
Additional Responsibilities:
- ● Contributing to UAH staffwide planning and discussions, including general legislative strategies
- ● Developing materials for outreach and education in support Opportunities for Personal Development:
- ● Preparing the speakers bureau will mean developing familiarity with the many issues of policy touching on food security, including emergency food (food banks and pantries), SNAP, WIC, School Meals, and Senior programs. The position also means becoming familiar with the many organizations operating in the space.
- ● The intern will be expected to join UAH for legislative work when possible
○ While most of the internship can be done remotely, this would require
flexible scheduling, and the ability to travel to Salt Lake City during the session. UAH will accommodate to the extent possible.

COMPANY NAME AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Utahns Against Hunger for Winter 2026 is a legislature adjacent project students will engage in multiple aspects of the legislative process as they support the UAH team in pursuing policy changes and funding for local communities experiencing food scarcity. This internship will allow students to be involved in community outreach, policy work, lobbying, public relations, project management, non-profit work, and working with underserved, at-risk communities.
