New Associate Directors Announced

On Wednesday, May 13, School of Communications incoming director Ed Carter announced the appointment of Tom Robinson, professor, and Clark Callahan, associate professor, as associate directors of the School, effective June 1. Robinson will work with graduate studies and Callahan will take on the undergraduate studies responsibilities.

“Tom and Clark are well-prepared to make many positive contributions to the School,” commented Carter. “I look forward to learning from them and working closely with them.”

Robinson teaches advertising and specializes in account planning, advertising principles and advertising strategy and research. He holds a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Southern Mississippi, an M.A. in communication from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a B.S. in marketing from Northern Arizona University.

Callahan received a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Oklahoma (2002), an M.A. from West Texas A&M (1995), and a B.A. in communications from BYU (1995). He teaches courses in intercultural and international communication, theory, and research methods. He formerly taught at Penn State York and the University of South Dakota.

Carter expressed appreciation for former director Ed Adams and associate directors Dale Cressman and Mark Callister “for their visionary leadership and dedicated service.” Current School of Communications director Ed Adams moves into the role of dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications June 15. Cressman and Callister have agreed to take on significant committee roles in the School of Communications.

“We have great opportunities, and some challenges, ahead of us,” reflected Carter. “We benefit from a tradition of excellence in teaching, research, citizenship and other areas. My commitment is to do the best I can to facilitate your continued success and the academic, professional and spiritual growth of our students.”
