Layne graduated from the School of Accountancy at BYU in December 1986 and began work immediately in the accounting profession with Ryder Freight System, where he worked for three years. He then changed industries and began work as accounting manager for JB’s Restaurants, Inc. for the following four years. He then returned to BYU in 1993 to serve as business manager in the School of Communications, where he is responsible for maintaining the financial credibility and viability of various programs and operations.
