About the job

Big Valley Marketing seeks a media and content analyst with two to four years of business and/or academic research experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations. You will play a valuable role analyzing media coverage, social conversations, channel performance, industry trends and brand perceptions for our technology clients. Curiosity, proactivity and the ability to synthesize large volumes of information are critical traits, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of marketing research, communications research and/or public relations research experience in a business and/or academic setting.
  • Curiosity, proactivity and the ability to synthesize large volumes of structured and unstructured information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and (ideally) presentation experience.
  • An independent learner and voracious reader who likes to dig into trends, break down patterns, and understand the dynamics behind the stories and trends driving public conversation.
  • Social science background is a bonus, as well as prior experience in traditional media analysis, social media analysis, web analytics, search analytics and/or survey research.
  • Personal or professional interest in technology and its impact on business and society.
  • Ability to understand a client’s business, marketing and communications goals, and work with colleagues to evaluate marketing performance and progress against those goals.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with remote colleagues.

Job Description

  • Analyze news, blog and social media conversations to identify trends, perceptions, patterns, opportunities and threats that are relevant to our clients.
  • Evaluate performance of digital channels, social media content and community engagement.
  • Evaluate performance of content assets across owned, earned and paid media channels.
  • Benchmark client communications performance versus competitors across media channels.
  • Dig under the headlines to understand which conversation topics are rising and falling over time, and what’s driving monthly changes across news, social and search channels.
  • Use a variety of analytics tools for news, blog, social and search analysis, including Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack, Sprout, Moz, SimilarWeb, TechNews and other specialized tools.
  • Prepare a mix of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual analytics reports in PowerPoint that capture key findings, industry trends, performance metrics and actionable insights.
  • Collaborate regularly with clients and client teams to share quantitative and qualitative findings, and work together to develop actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with research and analytics colleagues to share learnings across clients, develop and implement new methodologies, and cultivate data storytelling techniques.
  • Manage individual day-to-day tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and interactions via Slack and Zoom.
  • Share project and workflow updates with team members via Asana and related tools.

Compensation: The salary for this role begins at $60,000 and increases based on experience. The salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate's experience level and location. Total compensation includes medical, dental and vision insurance with choices from national and regional insurance carriers, Employee Assistance Program, 16 weeks paid parental leave, 401k, lead incentives, and PTO, VTO and paid holidays, including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
