The Universe at BYU has won three awards in the 2015 Utah Idaho Spokane Associated Press Association’s annual news contest.
Journalism students from The Universe and ElevenNEWS finished first in nine categories and were finalists in seven other categories during the Society of Professional Journalists’ annual conference. The Universe won Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper and ElevenNEWS won Best All-Around Television Newscast.
March 29, 2014 marked The Society of Professional Journalists’ regional conference, which took place at the BYU Salt Lake Center in downtown Salt Lake City. The region of SPJ coving BYU also consists of schools from Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. Awards were given to the following BYU broadcast and print students:
The Universe claimed eight first-place awards and 14 other awards, more than all other Utah collegiate publications combined, in an annual competition sponsored by the Utah Headliners chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Universe has won 22 awards, including five for first place, in the Utah Press Association’s 2013 Better Newspapers Contest.
